It seems like there was a backstory where mom was a successful athlete, and dad had failed businesses stretched back through time, but because of how they behave in the present I conclude that these failures were because of shady business or morally shady decision making. Essentially I struggle to find a point where this family was a victim of circumstance! The movie failed, for me, to present this family as a group that was somehow in this situation beyond their control. I understand the idea of class struggle and the idea the movie was trying to present. Who's the real monster here? Is it the rich people who think the poor smell or the literal murdering con family? Oh that's right, it's the literal murderers.Īm I missing something? I never felt sorry for the poor family, or that the rich family were behaving badly! Not once!Įdit: Lots of people are /r/whoosh-ing me here. I love the cinematography, and the story was a fun thriller that I enjoyed watching.īut. All the hype here was "oh boy who's the real parasite here?" And headlines like "movie subverts expectations and highlights class struggle!"
